5 great jailbreak tweaks for the lockscreen

Best-Lock-screen-tweaks-featureOver the past few months we’ve brought you lists of the best iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks for the Music app, the best paid jailbreak tweaks, and the best free tweaks. Continuing with our “best tweaks” lists, today we’re bringing you 5 awesome ways to customize how your lockscreen looks and functions. Without wasting anymore time, let’s get into it!

1. Forecast

Forecast
As its name implies, Forecast brings the current weather and forecast to your lockscreen. It’s a simple but very useful tweak. On your main lockscreen page, Forecast will show the current temperature, current conditions, and the high and low for the day. Swiping right to left will reveal another lockscreen page with the upcoming Forecast for the next 5 days.
Forecast also has an option to replace your lockscreen and/or home screen wallpaper with animated wallpaper to match the current weather. One of the coolest things about Forecast is that it very closely mimics the look of the stock Weather app, making it feel native to iOS.
If you’re interested in picking up Forecast, you can find it in the ModMyi repo for $0.99.

2. Spin

SpinSpin is an awesome lockscreen tweak that redesigns the lockscreen when playing music. It features large song title and artist font, a circular album artwork view, and easy to access controls. It also keeps the large time text visible, instead of moving it to the status bar like iOS normally does. The controls are placed at the bottom of the screen, which makes them much easier to reach on larger devices, such as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Aside from the change in look, Spin also comes with a few gestures. Tapping the artwork will Play/Pause the currently playing song, and tapping and holding the album artwork will launch the currently playing music app.
If Spin is something you’re interested in checking out, you can find it on the BigBoss repo for $0.99.

3. AppBox 8

AppBox 8AppBox 8 is a tweak that makes it super easy to launch your favorite apps from the lockscreen. It does so by displaying user configurable apps with a right-to-left swipe of the lockscreen. Tapping app icons will launch them as you’d expect, but when tapping the home button within an app, you’ll be brought back to the lockscreen for security purposes. There’s also a few settings to customize the tweak to do things such as require your passcode when launching apps.
Aside from just launching apps, a few apps feature plugins called “App Views.” This feature allows you to tap-and-hold on certain apps for quick access to parts of these apps. With these App Views you can view your Playlists from the Music app, quickly create a new note, view Favorite contacts from the Phone app, and more.
If you’re interested in picking up AppBox 8, it’s available for $1.50 on the BigBoss repo.

4. SleekCode

SleekCodeSleekCode is a tweak that focuses on an area of the lockscreen most other tweaks ignore: the passcode screen. With SleekCode you have the option to enable or disable the blur and alpha on the passcode screen. You can also choose to remove the rings around the numbers. You can also turn off the slide to unlock chevron and the “Emergency” button on the passcode screen (I’d recommend leaving this on, however).
SleekCode can be found on the BigBoss repo for free.

5. IntelliscreenX 8

IntelliScreenX-8IntelliscreenX 8 is by far the most elaborate and feature-rich lockscreen tweak on this list. It adds a ton of information to your lockscreen for easy viewing at a quick glance. One thing you’ll notice is that notifications are displayed like you would see them in Notification Center, organized by app.
Above your notifications you’ll see the time, date, weather, and a customizable ticker that can pull information from RSS feeds, Twitter, and more. You can also view entire emails on the lockscreen, view posts from your Facebook feed and comment/like them, access your Twitter timeline, and more. The tweak also features Messages+, which adds features such as Quick Compose to your lockscreen.
This tweak has a bunch of customization options and other features, and you can learn more about IntelliscreenX 8 here. This tweak definitely isn’t for everyone, but luckily there’s a 3-day free trial so you can find out if it’s for you. After that, you’ll be required to pay $9.99 to keep using the tweak.
IntelliscreenX 8 can be found on the ModMyi repo.

How to Customize Your Lock Screen with CustomLS Jailbreak Tweak

Although there have been several jailbreak tweaks that allow you to modify your iOS 7 lock screen, developer Dylan Kelly has delivered the most comprehensive one to date. CustomLS lets you hide the various items found on the lock screen and change the "slide to unlock" text. You can download this jailbreak tweak for free from Cydia's BigBoss repository.
customLS
Once you've installed customLS, head to Settings->customLS. You'll see a bunch of toggles, so start toggling. The toggles let you hide the items on your lock screen. You can hide both the Notification Center and Control Center grabbers (the little horizontal bars at the top and bottom of the LS). You can hide the camera icon and the clock. If you disable the clock but still want to be able to see the time, you can enable time in the status bar. You can also disable the slide to unlock slider. If you have hidden the NC, CC or slide to unlock, the functionality is still there, you just can't see them. This is not the case for the camera grabber however.
Another nice feature of customLS is the ability to change the "Slide to Unlock" text, as well as the "legal text", which is the smaller text beneath the slide to unlock text ("Please" in the picture above). To customize either of these, simply enable the text you want to change and enter your own text. You'll have to respring for these changes to take effect.
CustomLS requires iOS 7 or better and it is not currently fully compatible with the iPad.

iOS 7 Jailbreak Update: Cydia for iOS 7 Nearing Completion & Team Evad3rs Certify iOS 7.0.4 as Jailbreak Safe

iOS 7 Jailbreak: iH8sn0w and MuscleNerd Confirm iOS 7.0.4 Safe for Future Jailbreaks
The whiff of fresh air was courtesy of Redmond Pie, which reported that the all-important companion tool for iOS jailbreaks - used by jailbroken iPhones and iPads to search for and install applications - is coming out soon.
The timetable given is about the same time that iOS 7 jailbreak is expected to filter out. For the jailbreaking community, Team Evad3r should push out its opus shortly after Apple is done with its official iOS 7.1 update.
That would be anytime between end of January and middle of February 2014. The likelihood is, the Cydia build for iOS 7 will be all set for distribution at around the same time.
Redmond Pie has published a number of screen shots that suggest how Cydia's interface on iOS 7 will be rendered (viewable here) but Cydia creator Jay Freeman was quick to stress that nothing is final in the look department.

The Evad3r member also addressed concerns that iOS 7 patches coming from Apple could render devices locked out of future jailbreaks. In theory, iH8Snow said that any updates from Apple should be regarded as unsafe as they are fired off to close down iOS vulnerabilities, thus keeping out any jailbreak attempts.
Yet for iOS 7.0.4, which is Apple's fourth correction instalment for its new mobile platform, iH8Snow has asserted that jailbreakers can rest their worries. The latest iOS 7 official patch is jailbreak safe. So those who wish to get the upgrade and jailbreak later once the Evasi0n iOS 7 is out can totally take the plunge.
But it is a different case for the Beta iOS 7.1. As expected, Apple will seed series of betas to developers before the final iOS 7.1 will be out. So to save time and effort, jailbreakers are warned to stay from these incremental Apple servings.
For the time being, some jailbreakers who got stuck with iOS 7, can now dial back to iOS 6 thanks to downgrade kit that went live in October. But this solution is limited only for A4-series iOS devices, Redmond Pie said.
For the great majority, the next best reprieve is scheduled to unwrap within the 2013 holiday season as confirmed by iH8Snow and Winocm. The duo declared earlier that their Christmas gift for the jailbreaking community - iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 - will certainly land in a matter of weeks

How to Monitor App Data Usage in iOS 7 and Disable Data-Hungry Apps from Sucking Up Your Money

How to Monitor App Data Usage in iOS 7 and Disable Data-Hungry Apps from Sucking Up Your Money
With the majority of smartphone carriers no longer offering unlimited data plans for the iPhone, monitoring how much mobile data you use is a key element to saving money on your phone bill.
Android has been integrating data monitoring into its OS for quite a while now, and with the new iOS 7, Apple is finally on board.

Cellular Data Usage
With this new feature, embedded right in the settings, you can watch how much data your applications are using. Not only that, but you can disable data usage for an individual app in case it's sucking up too much of that precious data.

To monitor your iPhone's data usage, head over to:

Settings -> Cellular and scroll down to Use Cellular Data For:.

From there, you should see all your downloaded applications (as well as stock apps) and how much cellular data each app has used.

You can also check the data for things like Siri, your home screen, and other features that eat up data by tapping on System Services at the bottom of the application list.

The statistics that show up under each app is the amount of data the app has used since the iOS 7 update. If you want to monitor it monthly (as you probably should), reset the statistics at every pay cycle.

With this new feature, you should be able to successfully monitor which app is sucking up the most unnecessary data and costing you money. This way, you can get rid of or block those apps and replace them with "healthier" alternatives.

Evad3rs iOS 7 Jailbreak / Download and Release Date: Devs 'Still Working Hard' Ahead of Possible Feb.

Evad3rs iOS 7 Jailbreak / Download and Release Date: Devs 'Still Working Hard' Ahead of Possible Feb.
There is still no word about an iOS 7 jailbreak happening anytime soon, but the Evad3rs posted a tweet last week saying that they are "still working hard on the iOS jailbreak."
The Evad3rs remain the most trusted jailbreak developers around but people are getting more anxious for another jailbreak release. With every iPhone release or operating system release by Apple comes an uphill battle for developers to figure out a way to get past the company's security features in order to crack the jailbreak code.
The Evad3rs are also facing pressure to come through with a jailbreak release that is consistent with the new iPads that are being released by Apple.

It is unclear whether the jailbreak developers have moved their efforts abroad; after the Evad3rs left the country to attend meetings on iOS hacking, another member of the group indicated in a tweet that she was not in the United States but rather in Phuket, which is a city in Thailand. Just days before that, she said in a tweet that she was in Bangkok.
Although the jailbreaking process has taken quite awhile, the developers urged people early on to remain patient throughout. The Evad3rs said weeks ago that they were getting close to solving the jailbreak but did not want to announce any release dates in case something were to go wrong.
There were false reports of a jailbreak earlier this fall but people almost immediately dismissed it in favor of waiting for the Evad3rs to complete their jailbreak.

Apple is said to be Developing new Sensors and curved iPhones with Large 4.7 and 5.5 inch Displays

If rumors are believed Apple is planning new bigger iPhones with curved displays and new sensors that can detect various levels of pressure.
Two variants to be released in the second half of next year, the usual launch cycle, would feature larger displays with glass that curves downward at the edges. The new screen sizes would vary between 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, the new models would be Apple’s largest iPhones.
Samsung and LG both showed of their versions of curved phones last month, with a horizontally curved Samsung Galaxy Round and a vertically curved LG G Flex, Apple’s curved iPhone may not be that far.
Apple still has to catch up to screen sizes in the Android camp, and with the proposed 4.7 inch and 5.5. inch screen sizes “supposedly” in the making, Apple may have just the right mix of new tech they may need to remain at pole position.
Apple also said last week that it will open a new plant in Arizona to make components for its devices. Merrimack, New Hampshire-based GT Advanced Technologies said Apple will prepay $578 million for furnaces to make sapphire materials used in smartphones, with the iPhone maker getting some exclusive rights.

Apple working on iWork update to re-introduce ‘missing features’

new pages numbers keynote
Apple recently released all-new versions of iWork apps for Mac and iOS. The updated versions of Pages, Keynote and Numbers feature a complete design overhaul and also introduces some new features. However, as users began to explore the new update many found that some features were removed.
Users reported their concerns on Apple support forums and the started listing the features that had been removed. This isn’t the first time the company has faced strong comments or feedback after a major update. When Apple released a brand new version of Final Cut Pro many users said it was a step back rather than a step forward. But, Apple promised users that they would be restoring popular features in upcoming updates.
This time Apple has responded similarly, by announcing that many user requested features for the iWork apps will be coming in a future update.
The new iWork applications—Pages, Numbers, and Keynote—were released for Mac on October 22nd. These applications were rewritten from the ground up to be fully 64-bit and to support a unified file format between OS X and iOS 7 versions, as well as iWork for iCloud beta.
These apps feature an all-new design with an intelligent format panel and many new features such as easy ways to share documents, Apple-designed styles for objects, interactive charts, new templates, and new animations in Keynote.
In rewriting these applications, some features from iWork ’09 were not available for the initial release. We plan to reintroduce some of these features in the next few releases and will continue to add brand new features on an ongoing basis.
The new version of iWork apps ensure that there is complete compatibility between iOS and Mac version of the apps. This will server users better in the long run as they create files on their iPhone or iPad and the continue to work on it on their Mac without worrying about compatibility or messing up the format.
Some of the most requested features in the new iWork applications according to the threads on Apple support forums have been the ability to customise the toolbar, use AppleScripts and vertical ruler. Apple will re-introduce these features in upcoming updates over a period of six months.
It’s important to note that files created in new iWork apps aren’t compatible with older versions of the software suite. However, you can convert the files created with the new version to run on older iWork apps.
iWork apps are now free for anyone who buys a new Mac or iOS device. The update is free for anyone who previously owned any of the iWork apps.

Apple iPhone 6 Release in 2014: Apple to Offer Upgraded Version of iPhone 5S And A Phablet

ilife_hero

Expect two iPhones in the year 2014, with speculations of iPhone 6 release next year. The other handset will be an upgraded version of iPhone 5S. iPhone 6 according to some rumours will be a phablet-sized phone. Some competition from Apple finally for Samsung Galaxy Note series!
It seems Apple has left the tradition of releasing one phone per year. Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley suggests that the tech giant is considering faster refreshes of its iOS devices from 2014. The statement is based on an assessment with Apple’s top executives. Apple’s top competitors namely Samsung, HTC, Sony are known for releasing more than a single flagship handset per year. Samsung has the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III which already have done so well in the market, HTC has HTC One and the Max Build, Sony offers the Sony Xperia Z in different configurations. All the three have benefited in a great way with this game plan. So is Apple going to revamp its strategy accordingly?
The phablet class iPhone will be a great handset surely. Apple Inc is bound to attract a higher customer base and provide satisfaction to the already millions of Apple handset users. Apple aficionados can expect 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch handset upgradations, as per the NPD DisplaySearch report. Some other reports suggest that Apple wants to focus on one-hand use for navigation, despite the large screen, for better user experience. iPhone 6/iPhone Air will have a sapphire glass cover, Sharp IGZO technology, 64-bit processor with M7 coprocessor chip, 128GB flash storage and a facility for “charging-on-the-go” with solar panel built in the phone.
If the news is indeed true, a first quarter debut for iPhone 6 is expected, followed by the release of the second handset towards the end of 2014.

Step-by-Step Guide on Setting Up and Using Retina iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air for the First Time

apple just released two refreshed versions of its iPad series: the iPad Mini 2 and the iPad Air. Both tablets sport Retina displays and run on the latest A7 processors. For first time buyers, it is important to understand how to set up the devices.
iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air Specs
iPad Air measures 240 x 169.5 x 7.5 mm (9.45 x 6.67 x 0.30 in) and weighs 469g. It comes with a LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors and offers 1536 x 2048 pixels, 9.7 inches (~264 ppi pixel density). As mentioned it runs with Apple A7, dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) and PowerVR G6430 (quad-core graphics).
The iPad Mini 2, on the other hand, measures 200 x 134.7 x 7.5 mm (7.87 x 5.30 x 0.30 in) and weighs 331g. It comes with a LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors and offers 1536 x 2048 pixels, 7.9 inches (~324 ppi pixel density). It runs with Apple A7 dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) and PowerVR G6430 (quad-core graphics).
Understanding how to set up the slates can have the devices running in no time. Both devices share similar set up process. Follow the steps enumerated for set up:
  • Slide fingers across the screen bottom - along the area with the "slide to set up" label.
  • Choose preferred language.
  • Choose the country from the list provided
  • If connected to WiFi, choose the WiFi network on the following menu. A user can also choose cellular connection if the iPad supports cellular data. Make sure cellular connection has been activated by the carrier before choosing this setup.
  • Connect the device to the WiFi, if the network is secure, input password.
  • Decide whether to enable Location Services. There are specific programs like Maps requiring location services.
  • Select Setup as new iPad in the following screen.
  • Sign in with Apple ID or create on before completing the set up.
  • Select iCloud for backup if the user wants to sync their calendars, contacts and other important data. They can also use iCloud to backup files. Majority of users agree to this step.
  • It is highly recommended to activate Find My iPad. This allows users to track their slate in the event they lose it or it gets stolen. Users can sign up to this by logging in to icloud.com. This also prevents other users from erasing data on the device.
  • People can choose which emails and phone numbers are allowed to contact the person via the device. They also deselect in the future.
  • The set up process also asks whether the user wants to enable Siri. It is best to turn on the digital assistant.
  • The set up process will also ask whether the user wants Apple to obtain diagnostics via their device. This depends on the user.
Once all of these have been completed, the user is good to go. They can enjoy their iPad device to their liking.

Tablets have indeed taken the tech world by storm. Think back a few years ago, when the world tablet itself in the tech arena had no meaning, hardly many people knew about it. Today, it has created a buzz in the tech-savvy public. Here is an attempt to put ten of the best tablets available today.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
This marvel in the tablet world has a large screen size, a wonderful design and the feature of a stylish S pen that is good for creative stuff on the tablet.
  • Asus Transformer Pad Infinity
It has got everything to be called a good tablet, just the price rates are a notch high. A 1920 X 1200 screen resolution means HD viewing is possible. 1.3 GHz NVidia Tegra 3 Quad-core processor runs the tab. It has a full Qwerty touchpad and a simple interface.
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
With Exynos 4412 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and 1280X800 resolution, Galaxy Note 8.0 is one of the best tablets around. The best part about Note 8.0 is its portability thanks to the lightweight and incredibly sleek design.
  • Tesco Hudl:
The 7-inch Tesco Hudl tablet (yes, a tablet from the supermarket chain) is decent enough with a quad-core processor. It is very light to carry, however, not so good as far as the camera is concerned.
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 2:
This tablet bridges the gap between a tablet and a laptop perfectly. It has a large screen, Qwerty keypad and Windows 8 OS. It is slightly heavy though and average on screen resolution
  • Google Nexus 10
How can we miss one of the most talked about tablets, Google Nexus 10. The best part is, it packs a lot of pixels with a pixel density of 299ppi, and is decently priced for the quality it provides.
  • iPad mini 2
This tablet from the tech giant Apple Inc has a superb design, great battery life andwonderful performance. It is light and extremely portable too. Of course, the lack of retina display and the high price is a concern, nevertheless, Apple never misses out on high quality.
  • Google Nexus 7:
ncredibly lightweight at 290g and has a sleek design, but loaded with powerful features. Doesn’t matter if you are an Android fan or not, Nexus 7 is definitely one great buy for the price it is offered at.
  • Sony Xperia Tablet Z
Sleek, powerful and a wonderful screen. This tablet takes viewing to a whole new level. It is power-packed internally and portable too. Highly recommended.
  • iPad Air
Larger screen, A7 and M7 processor chips and has an incredible design to say the least. This tablet is easily at the top, and we reckon won’t move from there at least for now.

iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak: Redsn0wn, Evasi0n, iH8Sn0w… Which Is The Real Deal?

Owners of iOS devices around the world are waiting to hear news about the release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 and the iPhone 5. We have heard about many jailbreaks, but sadly many of them are fakes.
The Evad3rs team are working on a jailbreak and they do have all the parts that they need to make the jailbreak for iOS 7. Up to now they have talked more about the jailbreak than they did in the past and they have shared details, including how to spot fake jailbreaks. So here are three ways.
If and when an untethered jailbreak comes out the download will come free of charge. You will not have to fork out money for the iOS 7 jailbreak. A lot of the time people offer jailbreaks which they claim comes with a money back guarantee. However this doesn’t mean anything. Often these types of jailbreaks also offer an unlock too. The unlock might work on your device; however it could come with a fake jailbreak that doesn’t work. In this case you should look for a reliable company offering to unlock your phone and wait for the release of the Evad3rs jailbreak.
One way of being sure that the jailbreak isn’t the real deal is that the site offering it hides the download behind surveys, which you have to fill in before you can get your hands on the download. Often they offer the chance of winning prizes or they offer the iOS 7 jailbreak as the prize. Sometimes you are asked to leave your details and sign up for a service or make a purchase of something that requires your credit card details.
There can be people on Twitter or in forums who claim that they have a working jailbreak for iOS 7 but they need donations. This is another con and the chances are that they don’t have the jailbreak. You should always give things a second look before handing over any cash or your credit card details.
So have you come across any scams and people wanting money for the iOS 7 jailbreak?

iPad Air vs Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 vs Google Nexus 10 Display ,XDX beats all

iPad Air vs Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 vs Google Nexus 10 display: XDX beats all

The three tablets are going to compete in the market in the days to come. iPad Air vs Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 vs Google Nexus 10 display comparison shows that XDX beats its rivals.
Three tablets with awesome high-resolution displays are out in the market currently and it can become difficult to choose one over another just on the basis of display quality. Pitting all three together step-by-step, let’s see who fares best?
When it comes to sharpness there is no doubt that all three are equally good and in none of the screens, from normal viewing and with normal vision distance can the pixels be discriminated.
As far as brightness of these top tablets is concerned the three are among the best. In strong ambient light brightness is very importance, but too bright a display saps the battery too quick. Kindle Fire rules. With a display of 527 cd/m2, the 8.9-inch Kindle outshines the others. Second comes the iPad Air, managing a good 449 cd/m2. Nexus 10 failed.
When it comes to colour calibration there is tough competition among the trio. There is a tie between Amazon Kindle Fire HDX and the iPad Air. They are well calibrated in terms of color intensity scale, image contrast, and color gamut. They register close to the sRGB/Rec.709 Standard, or display colors that are close to reality, almost of professional standard. The Nexus 10 lags with a color gamut that is 58 per cent smaller than the standard.
To be true when it comes to screen reflectance the competition is more between iPad Air and Amazon Kindle Fire HDX. Screen reflection is good on the iPad Air, but the Amazon tablet is even better. The Kindle has the lowest reflectance of any tablet tested by DisplayMate. The year-old Nexus 10 is again coming in last, with 54 percent more reflectance than the Kindle Fire HDX.
On viewing angles too the tablets compete well. All three tie here and brightness decreases when viewed at angle, though colour remains true, as with all LCD displays Conclusion is that Kindle Fire HDX has the best tablet display.

iPhone 5S has Battery problems

Oops! iPhone 5S Has Faulty Battery?

iPhone 5S

Looks like post the Steve Jobs era, Apple is slowly being plagued by more troubles than praises. The latest issue to plague Apple is the iPhone 5S battery life.

iPhones are not generally known for their long-lasting battery but as compared to Android, the battery power is often considered better. With every new iPhone or even smartphone, the one thing that a phone company boosts is the battery power. And it was the same with iPhone 5S.

However, according to recent reports, the all new iPhone 5S is suffering from battery issues. On the positive side however, it is just a small percentage of phones that is suffering from the problem. While some models of the iPhone 5S are taking longer to charge or not charging, others are facing a battery drain issue.

According to a report by New York Times, an Apple spokesperson quoted "We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life."

Apple is recalling the affected devices and offering an exchange.

Apple’s iOS and gadgets seem to be facing many issues since the demise of Steve Jobs. While every company goes through its ups and downs and Apple faced problems even before, Jobs often held a mum response to accepting or acknowledging errors in public. There would be quiet solutions rolled out. The new method is definitely better for the layman but we wonder how good is all the negative publicity doing Apple. It is perhaps a case of any publicity is good publicity?

iPhone 5S is all set to debut in India tomorrow. While the phone has been the rage in grey markets and is already available online, the excitement is yet to ebb. iPhone 5S is much advanced in terms of hardware as compared to its predecessors. The phone comes with iOS 7, 64 bit processor, advanced camera with dual-tone flash, finger-print recognition, etc to name a few features.

The phone was launched with iPhone 5C which, despite initial excitement, failed to catch on with audiences. Apple even discontinued the iPhone 5, making iPhone 4S as the base model to promote their iPhone 5C. Will the strategy work? This Diwali will surely tell!
