While the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is quite new, there are always owners asking us how to root their new phone. While we don’t really recommend doing so, we couldn’t just say no to those requests. So, here is a post that would guide you to root your Sprint Galaxy Note 3 with model number SM-N900P.
Before You Begin
Just before you go any further, try to do the following to make sure you won’t lost any important data:- Backup you SMS, MMS and Call Logs
- Backup your Contacts and Settings.
- Copy your multimedia files to your computer (photos, music, videos, etc.)
- Make sure your phone has at least 60% battery left.
- Make sure necessary drivers were installed to your computer to avoid detection failure.
- Enable USB Debugging on your phone.
- Make sure you’re running stock firmware.
Files To Download
Download the following files and save them into your computer.- ODIN flashing tool [download link]
- CF Auto Root file [download link]
Rooting Sprint Galaxy Note 3
Step 1: Extract both ODIN and CF Auto Root files to a directory you can easily find.Step 2: Turn the phone off. The device will vibrate about 5 or 6 seconds to confirm it is completely switched off.
Step 3: Boot the phone Download Mode. Press and hold the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons simultaneously. Once the warning screen shows up, use the Volume buttons to toggle and choose Download Mode.
Step 4: Run ODIN application.
Step 5: Using the original USB cable, plug the phone to your computer and wait a few seconds until ODIN detects the phone successfully. The message ‘Added!’ will show up on ODIN if phone detection was successful.
Step 6: Click the PDA button and navigate through the directory in your computer where you saved the files contained in CF Auto Root zip file and look for a file with the extension tar.md5.
Step 7: On ODIN interface under Options, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Step 8: Click START button.
The phone will be rebooted automatically. Wait until the phone is up and running before using it. Your phone is now rooted.
