Samsung Galaxy S4 became a huge success that the spotlight now turns on its upcoming refreshed version: the Samsung Galaxy S5. According to reports, the Korean tech giant will be ramping up production in January 2014 in time for a February or March release. New information also surfaced saying that Samsung just filed a patent on eye recognition technology for user authentication. Can Samsung be including an eye sensor for their next flagship?

Apple introduced the TouchID sensor in the Apple iPhone 5 series. It seems Samsung wants to challenge chat as reports cited the South Korean company filing a U.S. patent on eye recognition technology for user authentication on devices.
In the filing, Samsung provides a comparison of fingerprint recognition to eye recognition. The eye recognition technology uses an iris-based authentication method according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
In its filing with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, Samsung indicated:
"The iris has unique patterns whose number is larger than that of the fingerprint ... and ... is being evaluated as a biometric identification technology more advanced than a fingerprint or retina scanning technology."
Samsung has been in incorporating eye recognition technology in a number of its devices. The Galaxy smartphones already come with a program that scans the eyes of the user to figure out if brightness should be adjusted. The program can also go through Web page up or down depending on the eye movements of the user.
Although the spokeswoman from Samsung refused to divulge information to the Journal, analysts believe that the sighting of the filing may hint that Samsung may well be considering using iris-based authentication on its upcoming flagship smartphone. The technology can also trickle down to other devices like tablets and computers.
Other reported features of the Samsung Galaxy S 5 include 64-bit CPU which may include the first Samsung Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) Exynos big.LITTLE chip. The chip can reportedly run eight cores all at the same time. Samsung may throw a Qualcomm Snapdragon into the mix plus Android 4.4 KitKat and 4,000mAh battery.
People will have to wait for official announcement from Samsung.
